Remaining silent for fear of being judged for the way one speaks is more common than one might think. Through a series of scenes inspired by their personal experiences, stories gathered in the field, and discussions with specialists, two Acadians confront with humor-but not without a certain amount of pain-the prejudices associated with the way they express themselves. They open a dialogue on the stigma surrounding language, determined to face their linguistic discomfort and break free from it.
Bianca Richard and Gabriel Robichaud, originally from southeastern New Brunswick, initiated this vast project in 2019. Taking the form of a theatrical docu-fiction, a podcast series, and a television documentary, Parler mal embodies a personal and collective quest for linguistic liberation. Offering a poignant and powerful testimony to the importance of finding one's voice and making it heard loud and clear, this project resonates beyond borders to embrace the diversity of ways of speaking.
